Interior trends forecast for 2020

In each season we look to give the decoration of our home certain details that will transform it, as well as the seasons, so decorators and designers around the world, show us the trends in decoration that they are imposing in order to beautify our living spaces.

And as it is now close to the end of 2019, now we can already know what are the new trends in decoration for 2020. Ready to meet them?

1. Division of environments with natural materials

Unlike in previous years in which open spaces with communicated environments were sought, in 2020 we will see designs that opt otherwise. The tendency will be to look for divisions that grant greater privacy and intimacy to each environment, so that they are more welcoming.

2. More intimate and welcoming environments

Although we can not deny that open spaces give the feeling of having a larger house, we must also recognize that there are times when that open communication can diminish comfort, such as having kitchen smells in the room or having a lot of noise when you need more peace of mind.

3. Gray

The gray color is still a trend because being a neutral color covers a wide range of combinations and styles that in the next year will be bolder when combined with vibrant colors. It can be applied to paint interior walls and furniture decoration. Also in carpets and textiles.

4. Pink

The pink color has already been present for several seasons in interior decoration and we will continue to see it next year.

How to make your bed like a pro

Nothing beats climbing into a well-made bed. Recent studies have shown that making your bed each morning will set you up for a successful day and good nights sleep. Who needs more incentive of an incentive than that? To help you along, we’ve compiled some easy to follow steps on how to make your bed like a professional.

Step One: Create the Foundation

No matter what anyone says, the thread count on your bed linen matters. Most hotels use bed linen with a 300 thread count, however, we recommend purchasing a set with the highest thread count you can afford.

Begin by laying down your fitted sheet, then layer your top sheet with the patterned side facing down, so that the when the sheets are turned down you’ll see the pretty designs. This will also feel more luxurious for you once you’ve climbed into bed.

Step Two: Cover your Bed

The next step is to cover your fluffy duvet with a duvet cover and place either folded in half at the bottom of your bed or pulled to the top with your flat sheet folded over the edged of the duvet.  According to website, My Domaine, you’ll need to, “master the fold: It’s all about clean lines, which you achieve with the right folding technique. There are two types of folds you need to familiarise yourself with; the one for your sheets and the one for your duvet. When it comes to your duvet cover, you want a nice fold-over to show off your pillows. You want to measure an arms-width of fabric and the ‘chop’ across the length of the bed to achieve a proper fold.”

Step Three: Pillow Talk

Investing in good quality pillows based on your firmness preferences is key. Once you’ve got that down you can move on with styling the pillows on your bed. Arrange your pillows from largest to smallest, with the smallest being right at the front.  The rule of thumb is to have no more than five pillows, or your bed will look too cramped.

Step Four: The Final Touches

Give your duvet a gentle tug at the foot of the bed to smooth out any lumps or bumps. In the cooler months, keep an extra throw at the foot of the bed so that you can reach for it easily in the middle of the night if need be.  Work out any wrinkles by lighting spraying tap water onto the crease, let it sit for a minute and gently shake out the wrinkles.

Choose unscented candles to accompany a meal; scented candles can clash with the aroma of the food. If candles are not practical, use battery-operated candles or strings of light on your table.

Bedroom décor trends that’s hot right now

It’s difficult to talk about the “latest trends” in an industry when, come a few months time, there’ll be a new trend on everyone’s lips. And in terms of home décor, it’s not financially possible to always stay updated with the latest in bedroom décor trends, for example. We have our bedroom furniture sets and there’s only so much DIY they can undergo before we might as well just buy new bedroom furniture for sale.

But, for now, these are the bedroom design and décor trends that 2019 has seen and, somewhat, stuck with.

DARK DECOR

Dark and bold colours have been making their way into our homes. Emerald green, cobalt blue and ultraviolet specifically. These colours make interior decorating slightly easier as the walls and bedding sets speak for themselves and everything else can get away with being simple.

If you aren’t too keen on dark dramatic décor, you could just stick to the black bedroom furniture accents in a lighter coloured bedroom. It’s a modern and statement finish that can take your bedroom’s look from neutral to stylish with no effort. Consider black bedroom furniture for your bed frame, floating shelves, headboard and nightstands.

But not everyone is looking for dark tones in their bedroom. And that’s okay. If you’re looking for a lighter tone, then pale pink, yellow and tropical greens are also trending on the other end of the décor spectrum this year.

ALL ABOUT TEXTURE

Texture is definitely a consistent trend throughout 2019 and will likely remain a trend through 2020 as well. Only because there are infinite texture combinations that people can play around with and incorporate within the four walls of their bedroom.

If there are key textures that have shown up throughout the year, it would have to be velvet, woven textures in bedroom furniture, knitted and anything soft and fluffy. It’s also incredibly easy to bring textures into your bedroom décor with throw pillow, blanket, carpet and seating furniture.

But you can also choose to play with texture on your bedroom walls. Keeping your concrete walls raw and unpainted or adding a wooden feature wall to your bedroom gives it an edge that all bedrooms need to make it Pinterest worthy or “on-trend”.

And the best part about the texture trend is that it doesn’t have to match. Mixing textures and playing around with layers is, basically, the whole point of bedroom décor. It’s the best trend because you can have all the bedroom furniture items you like even if they aren’t necessarily the same shade or texture.

OPEN WARDROBES

This isn’t a bedroom trend that everyone can pull off. Some of us have never mastered the art of a constantly neat wardrobe so having an open closet on display as a décor aesthetic, just wouldn’t work.

But for those whose bedrooms are constantly organised and neat, this is a great way to play with negative space. Open wardrobes work as a piece of personalised wall-art that changes with the seasons (literally because winter clothes have no place in summer).

Obviously, the clothing rails and open wardrobe structures aren’t suited to accommodate an entire wardrobe, so you’ll still be using your built-in cupboards or storing the rest of your off-season clothes somewhere else.

But the combination of floating shelves for shoes, wall hooks for hats and floating rails for everything else is simple, yet totally trending.

A PEACEFUL ESCAPE

This isn’t a décor trend so much as it is a general bedroom trend. But people are trying to design their rooms and use comfortable bedroom furniture to create a peaceful escape. They’re making the most of the space by playing with the natural light, adding greenery in the room, burning essential oils and turning the focus to rest and restoration rather than electronics and distractions.

They do this through window shutters that can dim the natural light to the mood, using soft lighting for the evenings and having a seating arrangement somewhere in the room. This can be a small couch at the foot of the bed, armchairs facing the windows or a day bed along the window.

Your bedroom is there to sleep in so it’s important to have bedroom furniture that your mind can associate with rest. You don’t need a TV screen above your bed. And as for the décor, well, that’s personal style and preference.

Your bedroom can be an authentic expression of yourself, what you like and how you feel. These are just some of the trends that people are gravitating towards this year. But that doesn’t mean you have to follow them. For all you know, you could be styling your bedroom in 2020 trends already.

The comeback of velvet

Like many a times before, the trends of the past undeservedly gave velvet a somewhat poor and dusty image – very much at odds with a modern, trendy design.

Yet now, this fabric has made the biggest comeback since Britney and bold colours. Not only to the closet, but also to everything from a couch to a scatter cushion, and even curtains.

One of the main reasons for its comeback is a phenomenon that one can call “cocooning”, which very basically translates to feeling cosy at home, surrounded by soft fabrics. We as humans long for texture, structure and warmth in our homes.

Velvet is a perfect fit for this trend. It complements all sorts of styles and lends a certain elegance to upholstered furnishings. Advances in digital printing have allowed for more elaborate patterns to be printed on velvet, and because velvet holds colour very well, this makes for bright, saturated and bold prints.

Hertex

Simple shapes can lend a contemporary makeover to this fabric, and it can look aesthetically pleasing in any colour – trendy in the berry hues of the season to modern in shades greys and other neutrals. If you’re feeling brave, choose mysterious, dark jewel shades like emeralds, dark blues, maroons or even ochre – which can add that striking wow factor.

Thanks to the pile, velvet makes any colour look luminous and vivid. Very much like during certain historical eras, the soft fabric is now being used for wall coverings, cushions, upholstery, bedspreads and more. And, if you’re not feeling the velvet vibe for all over your home, you can still add a touch of velvet magic with a scatter or a select upholstered item.
